Strict national regulator
Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB)
Players in Michigan. Under the Lawful Internet Gaming Act (Act 152 of 2019), internet gaming may be offered only by persons lawfully operating casinos in the state.
My verdict
Michigan's regime ties online casinos to licensed casino operators and keeps a firm line on unlicensed sites. The player-facing detail is thinner than in the UK, and the Board will not settle payment disputes. A clean Michigan licence earns the top Licensing score in my framework.
What it requires from casinos
- Operator licences run 5 years and renew only if the Board finds the operator still meets eligibility and suitability standards.
- Licences are conditioned on compliance with the Act, Board rules, minimum internal controls and technical standards.
- Operators with casino and sports products may bar you from all their online products for the longest exclusion you chose.
What to watch out for
- The Board says it does not resolve individual payment disputes.
- You cannot remove your name from the Responsible Gaming Database early.
If you have a dispute
Complain in writing to the operator first and wait for its written response. If it is still unresolved you can file with the Board, which may investigate and order corrective action. It says it does not resolve individual payment disputes.
Enforcement example: In May 2025 the MGCB issued cease-and-desist orders to four unlicensed online gambling operators.
Self-exclusion
Responsible Gaming Database: Covers online gaming and online sports betting for 1 or 5 years. It ends automatically and cannot be removed early. Operators may extend it to all their online products.
