Respected international licence

Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC)

Online gambling licences for operators serving international players; the GSC supervises licensees and software or platform suppliers on the Island.

My verdict

The Isle of Man gives stronger player protection than most international licences, mainly through the player-funds rules and a regulator that decides complaints itself. I rate it as respected. It is still an offshore regime, so keep your own records before you complain.

What it requires from casinos

  • Player funds are held on trust, or backed by a bank guarantee or insurance, equal to funds owed.
  • Games must be certified by independent testers and verified by the GSC.
  • Licensees must prevent underage and self-excluded customers from gambling.
  • Licensees must give players controls to manage their gambling.
  • The GSC inspects licensees' systems and requests information periodically.

What to watch out for

  • The GSC investigates only its own licensees, in English, after the operator's process.
  • UK-based players are sent to the UK Gambling Commission.
  • No external ADR scheme is described; the GSC appeal decision is final.

How to check a casino holds this licence

Check the online gambling licensee register for the operator's company name; a separate list shows former licence holders since 2020.

If you have a dispute

Complain to the operator first. The GSC then investigates complaints about its own licensees from non-UK players, issues a decision, and allows a written appeal within 14 days.

Enforcement example: In February 2025 the GSC published a list of former licence holders, showing how each licence ended.
