Strict national regulator
Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden)
Players in Denmark. Licensed operators display the authority's label, and winnings from licensed operators are already taxed.
My verdict
Denmark has a small, tightly run market. Mandatory deposit limits, MitID verification and a payout rule against delaying tactics all work for the player. You still complain through the operator and consumer bodies, not the authority. A clean Danish licence earns the top Licensing score.
What it requires from casinos
- By law you must set a deposit limit when using an online casino.
- Operators must offer temporary self-exclusion and at least 90 days of your gambling history.
- Name and CPR number are collected at sign-up, usually through MitID, and verified within 30 days.
- A temporary account lets you play 30 days with up to DKK 10,000 of deposits. You cannot withdraw until verified.
- Verification must not be used to delay your payout unnecessarily.
What to watch out for
- The authority supervises operators but cannot recover your money.
- If your play changes or you bet large amounts, expect requests for payslips or bank statements.
- The licence is for Danish players, and only about 40 operators held online casino licences in 2024.
How to check a casino holds this licence
Look for the authority's label on the site, then confirm the operator and its domain on the list of licensed operators.
If you have a dispute
Complain to the operator, which must handle complaints and tell you within 14 days when to expect a decision. Then use the Mediation Team for Consumer Complaints, the Consumer Complaints Board or the courts. The authority is not an appeals body.
Self-exclusion
ROFUS: Register of self-excluded players covering online gambling, land-based casinos and betting shops. Choose 24 hours, 1, 3 or 6 months, or permanent.
